Growing knowledge for regenerative agriculture
Atherton Tablelands Integrated Collaboration (ATIC), is the first of its kind collaboration between the Queensland Government and Sustainable Table focusing on working with agricultural producers in the Atherton Tablelands in transitioning to regenerative agriculture for improved Reef water quality.
We are offering Education and Capacity-Building Grants to farmers, landholders and First Nations groups in the Atherton Tablelands. These grants support education, training, and knowledge-sharing activities that help you — and your community — transition to regenerative farming practices.
What do we mean by regenerative agriculture?
At Sustainable Table, we understand regenerative agriculture as a values-based approach that places life at the centre of decision-making, supporting soil health, water quality, biodiversity, and resilient ecosystems.
Who can apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a farmer or landholder operating in the Atherton Tablelands region and/or First Nations individuals and organisations who are active in the region — particularly where their activities demonstrate a connection to or benefit for Country within the Tablelands, and support change to regenerative agricultural practices
- Propose an activity focused on education, training, or knowledge-building related to regenerative agriculture
- Propose activities that align with the program's objectives of improving soil health, water quality, and ecosystem resilience.
- Commit to completing the funded activity by mid-2026
What funding is available?
- We expect most grants to be around $15,000 but if you have a bigger idea that could make a big impact — don’t hold back. If your project strongly meets the assessment criteria, we’ll consider higher funding requests.
- The total pool for this round is up to $150,000.
- Funding is generally provided in two instalments:
- 80% upfront, once your Grant Agreement is signed
- 20% upon completion, after your final acquittal report is submitted
- If your project can’t proceed under this model, there’s also a hardship option available. In some cases, Sustainable Table may release 100% of the grant upfront and carry the risk on the final 20%. Let us know in your application if you’d like to discuss this.
Co-contributions
While not required, applicants who can provide in-kind or financial contributions to their project will be viewed favourably during assessment.
What types of activities are eligible?
Projects must focus on education, training, or capacity-building activities such as:
Attending or hosting:
- Workshop, field day, or training programs
- On-farm demonstration events
- Peer-to-peer learning and mentoring programs
- Accredited courses in regenerative agriculture principles
- Travel costs associated with attending approved training (travel out of state may be supported if justified by benefits brought back to the community, and managed through the overall grant guide amount)
How will projects be assessed?
Applications will be assessed against:
- Clear alignment with regenerative agriculture principles and transition goals
- Demonstrated commitment to applying learnings in on-farm practice
- Potential for knowledge-sharing and impact beyond the individual farm
- Budget and requested funding are reasonable and justified
- Potential alignment with reef water quality improvement.
How does the process work?
- Submit a simple Expression of Interest (EOI) by the closing date.
- If your EOI meets the basic criteria, you’ll be invited to submit a full application.
- Funding decisions will be based on the merit of the activities proposed.
Please note: You’ll be asked to provide quotes for any items over $5,000 as part of your application (e.g., travel packages, facilitator costs, or training delivery).
We’ll also check in with successful applicants via a short phone call every six months, just to hear how your activity is going and help keep things on track. These check-ins continue until the project is complete.
Timelines
The grant process will roll out over several months to give applicants plenty of time to plan and prepare. The key anticipated dates are:
- Expression of Interest (EOI) closing date – 3 September 2025
- EOI outcome notification – 23 September 2025
- Full application submission – 22 October 2025
- Notification of funding outcomes – 17 November 2025
Please note these dates are indicative and may be adjusted slightly as the program finalises its timelines. Any changes will be communicated clearly and promptly.
